Indonesia Fintech Festival & Conference 2016

Thursday, September 1, 2016

The Indonesian Fintech Festival and Conference 2016, held on 29th and 30th August, was an event jointly organized between Financial Services Authority (OJK) and the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin). The event gathered regulators, financial institutions, investors, industry associations, tertiary students and general members of the public interested in the new phenomenon of FinTech. It took place at the Indonesia Convention Exhibition (ICE-BSD) in the Tangerang district of Jakarta.

The program lineup included Startup Competition, Startup Coaching, Startup Speed Dating and panel sessions involving local ministers, regulators and innovators in the Fintech industry.

The FinTech players, approximately 70 of them, participated in the booth exhibition to showcase their business models to the event attendees. Amongst them were Cashlez (a locally developed POS payment network), iGrow (a marketplace connecting farmers with urban investors) and Jojonomic (provider of paperless expense reimbursement solution). Kapital Boost also participated as an exhibitor, standing out quite prominently as the only Shariah-financing crowdfunding platform for the SMEs.

The Fintech Festival was an opportune event for Kapital Boost to connect with investors and Indonesia-based SMEs. The concept of Shariah financing and ethical investments may be new to some, but most were open to learning how Kapital Boost facilitates fundraising for SMEs using asset purchase financing or contract of Murabaha. This level of receptiveness is encouraging as Kapital Boost endeavors to grow our presence in Indonesia.

Lastly, the Fintech Festival created a collegial setting for fellow Fintech players to network and share experiences and knowledge with one another. Kapital Boost has tremendously benefited from the event and applauds the organizers for their effort to facilitate the country's nascent FinTech sector.

Indonesia is an exciting market for Kapital Boost to be in, with vast potential for technology and innovation to improve access to financial services. The impact on financial inclusion extends across the board, be it for the unbanked poor, the large SME market requiring financing and the wider consumers and businesses who benefit from safe and convenient mobile payment systems. We look forward to shaping that future in Indonesia.
